Meet the Team

  • Jeff Schunk

    Founder/President

Jeff has forty plus years of industry experience that shows his dedication to the love of the industry. As owner of Schunk Oilfield Service Inc. he works “hands on” to help oil and gas companies compete in this ever changing environment that requires our industry to be better stewards of the land and the environment. As a reputable service company in Michigan he assist in the planning, design, construction, service and maintenance of many oil and gas facilities throughout Michigan.

Eight years ago he recognized a need for a thief hatch repair device that was later patented as a “storage tank hatch liner”. Mr. Schunk started Hatch Mate LLC in 2016 to market this new product. The liner promotes a better seal for thief hatches. His “we can do better approach” didn’t stop him there. He has now joined forces with his colleagues Rayburn/Ray to bring the Hatch Valve to the industry through another start up company Effect Inc.

Jeff enjoys spending time with family where ever that may be. He has a true love for the outdoors. Fishing, hunting, camping and spending time with others with the same desires.

  • Brian Rayburn

    Vice President

Brian has worked in the industry for 39 years which includes Drilling, Completion and Midstream.  His latest work was helping establish the Marcellus and Utica shales.  He transferred to PA in 2009 to oversee all the midstream construction and operations for Markwest.  This includes the construction of pipelines, compressor stations and fractionation facilities.  He grew a work force from 8 people to over 1,000.  When the Utica shale started, he also oversaw the same activities as he did in the Marcellus shale.  He retired in 2020 from MPLX and then went to work for a small compressor shop in Michigan.

During his retirement time, he joined forces with Jeff Schunk to help develop and bring to the industry the “hatch valve”.  During his employment at Markwest and MPLX, he always had the attitude to do things (right way, right results) and ASASP (As Soon As Safely Possible).  This was a great fit for a new innovative design and application of the hatch valve.

Brian also loves the outdoors which includes Salmon fishing on Lake Michigan, hunting deer and Pheasant , UTV riding and Rock hounding.
